Picture This: Nature Photo Contest

Capture a photo moment as you wander through and enjoy the Demarest Nature Center. Record that special image and enter your black and white or color prints in the DNCA photo contest.

Here are the Rules of the Contest:

  1. Submit your unmounted prints (no smaller than 8" X 8" or larger than 8" X 12") to the Bank of America in Demarest by noon on May 31.
  2. Write your name, address, phone number, and age (if under 14) on the back of each picture
  3. There is no limit on the number of entries.
  4. Photos must be taken in the Demarest Nature Center.
  5. All entries become the property of the Demarest Nature Center.
  6. No more than one cash prize per person, per division, will be awarded.
  7. Winners will announced at the Breakfast in the Woods, Saturday, June 3.
  8. The Demarest Nature Center reserves the right to reprint your entry photo on this website or in other nature center publicity.

Four Categories:

  1. Color Prints, adult (14 and up)
  2. Color Prints, youth (under 14)
  3. Black and White Prints, adult (14 and up)
  4. Black and White Prints, youth (under 14)

Prizes:

  1. Grand Prize: $100
  2. 1st Place in each category: $50
  3. 2nd Place in each category: $30
  4. 3rd Place in each category: $20

Sat., Oct. 9:
Craft Show at Oktoberfest

Duck Pond, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The happiest day of the year in Demarest! Excellent handmade crafts for sale, German and Korean food, canoes, inflatable rides, etc. Rain date, Oct. 16.

Sat., Sept. 25:
Trial of the Trails!
5k and Fun Run, Rain or Shine

Two races on the trails of the beautiful Demarest Nature Center. The Trail Fun Run (1-mile) is open to ages 6 and up, including adults. The 5K Trail Run (3.1-mile), which includes all but one trail on the DNC's 55 acres, is for ages 9 and up, including adults. Wakelee Field Playground, registration is at 8:00 am, rain or shine. Registration forms will be sent home the second week of September from the schools, or can be downloaded here: Trail Run Registration (PDF).

2010 Scholarship

DNCA Environmental Studies Scholarship

The Demarest Nature Center Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship to assist a graduating senior pursuing study of, or related to, the environment. The requirements are on the Education page; you can also download the scholarship details here.
